Biography: Sweet Friend
I do not remember my life without Lauren. Our mom's were pregnant with us at the same time. They happened to run into each other on bed rest at the hospital. Months after we were born, on a Sunday morning, our mom's ran into each other at church.
"Do we know each other?", they asked after the service, as they recognized each other's faces in the nursery room at the back of the congregation. But this wasn't even the weird part.
A week later, on a family walk through our neighborhood, our mom's passed by each other. Lauren and I were just little beans wrapped tight in our strollers. It turns out our families lived 5 doors down from each other. From there, every vacation was together-- Disney cruise, Colorado, Kansas, etc.
This was the beginning of a friendship I will have for the rest of my life. By the time we were 10 years old, if I wasn't home after school, my mom would frantically call Miss. Julie, "Is Shary over there?"
"Of course!," she responded. Our lives are different now, and we are different people. Time and growing up have changed our lives. But, I still consider her my best friend. Lauren is the sister I never had.

Note: From a biographical point of view, I found the biggest challenge of writing this story is channeling the point of view of my mother. It was our mothers that brought Lauren and I together through a chain of crazy coincidences. This was an enjoyable writing experience, as I reflected on a very important relationship in my life!
