Vishnu's birth, Epified

The story begins with discussing the creation and Krishna’s coming into existence. The reader learns about Kansa, the ruler of Mathura. He was extremely disliked and cruel to the people he ruled. Kansa’s cousin and her husband where happy together when Kansa was cursed from the sky that their 8th child would eventually end up slaying him. Personally, I think Kansa’s anger stemmed from the fear of not wanting to die or give his throne away to anyone else. He was a selfish man. Kansa was tempted to kill his cousin, but he refrained when he realized that he loved her too much to do so. However, he put his cousin and her husband in jail and for every child they had, Kansa would immediately kill one by one because he didn't want to take any chance of the curse coming true. For her 8th child, Kansa's cousin gave birth to a god Vishnu. The narrate describes with great imagery how the world was overcome with peace and joy that a God had come to Mathura to save them from their corrupt and cruel ruler. The scenery changes that night when Mathura becomes dark and all the people stop any movement. It made me wonder why the world almost seemed like it was in agony even though earlier that day the tones were very joyful because of Vishnu. Was this all a ploy from the God's above to allow Vishnu to escape Kansa without being harmed? Vasudev, Vishnu's father, escaped with him in his arms and went to a river. Here, a large serpent kept the child safe and lead him to a cowherd village of gypsies.  I thought the use of the serpent was quite contrary to many tales to use this animal as a symbol of evil or a demon-- rather than a character that would assist a God.
