Topic Brainstorm

1. From Life to Death (click!):
From browsing the Indian Epics story sources, I found two important themes: birth and death. I really like the idea of exploring these topics in a life course, chronological point of view. This story would feature one central protagonist and his or her interactions within the environment. In my first story, I could focus on retelling stories about creation and the birth of the character I chose. Then, I could go into the character being nurtured, and developing into an adult. From there the character would fall in love, get married, and the cycle of creation would continue as they would have a child together. Finally, the end of the storybook would portray the death of the character. Although, I have not decided who this would feature specifically, I am considering using Rama, Devi, or Sita for this role.

2. Symphony of Gods (click!):
I am interested in having a story book with each chapter representing a different genre of music. Last semester, I experimented with imbedding YouTube music videos along with my stories, and I found that it took some of my stories to another place. As a music lover myself, I know how different instruments often can represent different personalities-- the trumpet as the extroverted and jubilant character, the flute as the dainty, shy character, the piano as someone emotional and soulful, and the list could go on and on. As I explore the Hindu Gods throughout these Indian epics, I could represent these characters and the plot that surrounds them with a certain sound. And in the end, these characters of instruments, would come together to create a harmonious orchestra of beauty. Or perhaps, I could go with an alternative angle and represent each God as an influential composer or musician of distinct genres.

3. Yoga (click!):
I have always enjoyed doing yoga as a physical exercise, and until now, I did not realize it was a Hindu exercise. So from my experience, I understand that many of the yoga poses have symbolic meaning or its shape itself represents an object or concept. I know this idea may not be as refined as my others, but I think it could be developed to have each chapter of the storybook feature the concept embodied by a yoga pose. From a visual standpoint, I really vibe with the aesthetic I could develop in this storybook by featuring cool tones other and relaxing motifs.

4. My Valentine (click!):
As a romantic myself, I am interested in having a storybook project about love letters or diaries. I think many people different perceptions of what love is and how they demonstrate it to others. Love can be expressed in many different ways. This would allow to explore a variety of character motives-- whether it may be a crush, lust, passion, or maybe even heartache. Also, I could use this as an opportunity to write these stories in first person point of view. I could portray this through stories of Rama and Sita. I plan on writing the private, points of view in a thought type of dialogue. And as you read more, one soon realizes that little do the two lovers know, that their desires are compatible and form what becomes one of the most epic love stories.
